Plant ID

How do I identify a plant?


Head on over to your SmartPlant app (available on the App Store and Google Play) After opening the app on your phone, follow these easy steps: 1) click the ‘add’ (+) button 2) click 'identify plant' 3) take or upload a picture of your plant 4) add a comment or question in the text box provided 5) press 'send' 6) one of our dedicated garden experts will be on the case and get back to you as soon as they can. You will receive a notification on your phone as well as to the email you used to sign up for your account, when your answer is ready.




Can I identify plants through your website or social media accounts?


Sorry! The only way to identify plants is through our plant identification feature only on the Smart Plant Home app. However, you should follow our instagram to constantly get inspired by new plants and learn easy care tips!

Care Calendar

How do I add a plant to my Care Calendar?


You have the option of adding plants in three ways: 1) Search for a plant in our extensive plant library 2) Take or upload a photo and have it identified by one of our experts 3) Scan the barcode of a plant purchased at a retail partner Once you have a plant to add to your Care Calendar: - Press the plus icon next to the name of the plant you would like to add - Select 'Add to My Plants' - The plus icon will change to a plant icon indicating that it has been added




Where do I find 'My Plants'?


Your plants show up in two places inside the app: 1) Inside your Care Calendar (denoted by the calendar icon just to the right of the home icon in the bottom tool bar) 2) Inside your personal plant archive (denoted by the line drawing of a potted plant on the far right of the bottom tool bar) Note: To find the plants you have placed on your Wish List, click the 3 lines at the upper right corner once you are inside your Personal Plant Archive. A drop down menu will appear and you will have the option of ordering your plants chronologically, alphabetically or to look only at your Wish List plants.

What if I can’t find a plant I’m looking for?


Try searching the plant by a few different names, and restart the app in case of glitching. If a plant is truly missing, please let us know by contacting team@smartplanthome.com

Scan a Plant

How do I use the Scan a Plant feature?


When at a Smart Plant Home retailer store, locate a barcode on the plant (this may be on the tag or as a sticker on the pot). Open the SmartPlant app. Using the tool bar at the bottom of the screen, press the + icon. A window will open with 4 options. Choose the Scan option in the lower left corner. When the next screen opens, press the green bar that says 'Scan your SmartPlant.' This will launch your phone camera. Position the barcode inside the 4 green marks and it will be automatically captured. You will know when the scan is successful because all the plant information will appear on your screen. Success!




Can I load plants into my app without scanning them?


Yes you can! Two ways to do this: 1) You can snap a photo of any plant, pest or disease you see and submit it to our live horticultural experts to identify it for you. Once identified, simply add it to 'My Plants' for monthly care information. 2) Search the SmartPlant plant library by pressing the + icon in the middle of the toolbar. When the quadrant opens, press Search. You can choose to search all plants by typing the name of a plant into the search bar, or choose to browse according to plant category or based on the room in your home where you want the plant to thrive and even look for plants that are currently trending.




What if my retailer isn’t a SmartPlant retailer? Can I still use the app?


Absolutely! All the plants you put into your Digital Garden inside the SmartPlant app will receive care information, regardless of whether you scan them at a retailer or add them manually by submitting a photo for identification or by searching our in-app plant library and manually adding them that way. If you want your local retailer to become a SmartPlant retailer be sure to tell them to contact us through the retailer page on our website. Then you can send us an email asking us to approach them or letting us know to keep an eye out for them here.

We’re excited to have you, come partner with us! Becoming a SmartPlant retailer puts you in customers' pockets allowing you to speak with them directly about what they need for the plants in their Digital Garden. Click the Retailers tab on the header of our website to learn all about it, then send us an email at thomas@smartplantapp.com and one of our account executives will get right back to you.




What if my local plant store isn’t a Smart Plant Home retailer?


If you want your local retailer to become a SmartPlant retailer, let them know! They can reach out to us or you can send us an email here.

What if I know nothing about plants?


That's what we're here for! We have experts available to answer your questions, and using the care calendar feature on our app will give you monthly advice on how to keep your plants thriving. You can also use the search button in the Smart Plant Home app to discover hundreds of varieties of plants in our digital library, or scan the barcode of a plant from one of our partnered retailers to instantly see plant info.




What is Garden Compass?


Garden Compass is the name of the brand that evolved into what is now SmartPlant. Currently it is the part of our business that connects consumers to Independent Garden Centers.




What does Smart Plant Home do?


We leverage our technological expertise to make the world of plant purchasing and care more simple and streamlined than ever before. For plant parents we offer our app, Smart Plant Home, where they can keep track of the care their plants need and get expert help. To download our app, see the "App Tab". For retailers, we offer a digital inventory system and assistance in setting up delivery and curbside pickup. This means they can reach the needs of their customers from anywhere. Where is the Smart Plant Home app available?


Smart Plant Home serves the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. We’ll be working on adding more locations soon! Even if we can't give you care information on our app, follow our Instagram @smartplanthome to get inspired and informed on how to take care of cool plants!

How do I download the app?

Is the app free?


The app itself is free to use! Beyond all the free features, there are some pretty sweet premium services available… See the “premium” tab for more! Cancel Subscription

How do I Cancel Smart Plant Home Premium?


Aw, we’re sorry to see you go! If you upgraded to Premium via the Apple App store or Android Google Play, you'll need to go through them to cancel. If you subscribed through iTunes, click Here. If you subscribed through Google Play, click Here. However, if you signed up through our Stripe Page, do send an email to team@smartplanthome.com and we will cancel it for you. Unsure of how you signed up? Check your App/Android subscriptions first, if you don't see anything there, email us at team@smartplanthome.com.
