Annual Bluegrass

Annual Bluegrass

Poa annua

Description

Commonly called annual bluegrass or annual meadow grass, Poa annua is a low growing annual lawn grass that is widespread and common throughout North America. It can grow in a variety of conditions and at different mowing heights. Because annual bluegrass can grow in a variety of conditions and reseeds prolifically, its thick mat chokes out the more desirable turf underneath. When hot weather arrives, it dies, but thousands of seeds remain to germinate in the fall. To control, use a pre-emergent formulated for Poa annua in mid-September available at your local garden center. Zones 4-10
