It is a clumping annual or perennial grass with slender leaves and feathery flower spikes in summer and autumn. Water-thrifty. P. alopecuroides 'Hameln', is one of several varieties, growing 1.5 to 2.5 feet tall by as wide with pinkish-white blooms in late summer to fall. Attractive to birds.
