Eggplant / Aubergine - Solanum melongena belongs in the plant family Solanaceae, which also includes tomato, potato, nicotine and the poisonous deadly nightshade plant. This close relative of the tomato and potato plants is actually a perennial plant, but often cultivated as an annual. Selections include both the dark purple skinned and white skinned varieties. Feed with a slow release or organic fertilizer formulated for vegetables.
