Commonly known as the Rubber tree, Rubber plant, India rubber fig, or India rubber tree. This evergreen tropical tree, in its native habitat, can reach 197 ft. high and wide with leathery, glossy dark green leaves, but remains much shorter in most other areas, especially indoors. Does best in bright light and moist, organic soils that drain well, and away from strong drafts or wind. Only tolerates a light frost for a short period of time,so it is used as a landscape plant only in frost free climates. Otherwise use it successfully as a patio plant or indoor plant in bright, indirect light. Do not allow plant to sit in water as this may lead to root rot. Feed with a slow release or organic fertilizer formulated for houseplants.
