Urn Plant/Silver vase

Urn Plant/Silver vase

Aechmea fasciata

Description

Silver vase is an evergreen bromeliad that features banded leaves covered with gray scales giving it a powdery appearance with pink or purple flowering bracts in the center of the leaf rosette. Bloom may last for months. Does not tolerate frost. Outdoors provide partial shade. Indoors provide bright indirect light, change out the water in the center cup regularly to keep clean. Since sensitive to salts and fluoride in tap water, use steam iron water. Feed with a slow release or organic fertilizer formulated for bromeliads. Once "mother plant" blooms, it will die but not before more "pups" emerge around it. Most popular as an indoor plant.
