Despite its wildly exotic flowers and often variegated foliage, P. insigne is among the cold hardiest and least fussy of the lady slipper orchids and comes in a wide array of whites, greens, yellows or combinations with contrasting lower, shoe-shaped lips. Where winters are mild, group with other orchids outdoors in shade or display indoors. Not toxic to humans, dogs or cats if eaten, but may cause irritation for those with sensitive skin.
