Cymbidium Orchid

Cymbidium Orchid

Cymbidium x hybrida

Description

Depending on variety, Cymbidiums are terrestrial orchids, with long-lasting spikes of pink, white, yellow, green or bronze flowers in late winter to spring. There are large-flowering varieties and dwarf hybrids. For flowering spikes to emerge, plants require 50 to 55 degree night temperatures and daytime temperature between 60 to 75 degrees. Keep orchid bark or other orchid potting medium moist during new growth from spring to summer, but in winter water sparingly just to keep the bulbs from withering. Feed once in spring with a slow release fertilizer formulated for orchids. Indoors, provide bright, indirect sunlight near an east facing window and feed with a liquid fertilizer formulated for Cymbidium orchids during growth and bloom cycles. Take outdoors in partial shade during warm, mild summer months. Divide orchids when container is crowded after bloom season is over, keeping at least 3 bulbs and leaves per division and plant in an orchid medium suitable for Cymbiidiums.
