Iris Germanica also know as Bearded Iris are stately architectural plants with narrow sword shaped leaves produced from rhizomes that are planted almost at the surface where they can bake in the summer sun. As soon as they finish flowering cut them back to get a second flush of flowers later in the season. Germanica Iris like well drained, fertile, neutral to light acid soil in full sun. Siberica Iris like well drained, neutral to slightly acid soil in full sun or partial shade. Most iris need long, hot summers to thrive and flower well.
